UTOPIA By the Numbers

Paradise by a dashboard of stats
Now that you know all about Utopia’s hidden treasures, its soon-to-flourish plant population, and why our show is different from all the rest, we want to share more facts and figures than ever before about our five-acre slice of potential paradise!
Within Utopia are…
*1.2 million gallons of water in a lake fed by a natural spring
*400 total fish: bass, bluegill, and catfish of varying ages
*48 types of shrubs and flowers
*15 fruit trees – fig, apple, apricot, grapefruit, guava, and more
*140,000 sq. ft. of hydroseed
*32,000 sq. ft. of sod
*35 live oak trees, protected by an arborist as an endangered species. Overhead lights have been strapped to the trees, not mounted, so as not to hurt them.
*Over 100,000 hours devoted to construction since early June
*Around 67,000 nuts, screws, and bolts, plus 80,000 nails were used to mount cameras and build basic structures
*15 chickens and 2 cows
*34 lights in the stable
*12 lanterns, 8 candle lanterns, and 5 propane lanterns in the main building
*Over 3,000 ft. of fencing
*Over 10,000 rocks and boulders, each individually hand-placed
*600 ft. of power cable, 600 ft. of water lines, and 30 ft. of gas running underground
*Oh, and 130 robotic HD cameras, many of which are camouflaged. Pay ‘em no mind.
And just beyond Utopia lies…
*25,000 sq. feet of office space! And that’s where we’re sequestered. Sorry, no selfies.
We’re sharing all these stats a few steps down the dirt road from Utopia, where we’re working on site ‘round the clock to produce every element of this ambitious social experiment -- edit, post, broadcast, digital, the works. Behind-the-scenes Utopia is pretty much the coolest pop-up office compound ever -- it feels like a portable boardwalk empire in the middle of the mountains, or a cruise ship floating in a dust bowl. Or camp! (Though people at camp probably sleep more.)
What lies beneath all of us:
*122 megawatts of power
*10 miles of coaxial cable
*4 miles of ethernet
*Over 63 miles of fiber optics
*All of this so we can collect 288 hours of high-def video every single day
*Digitally speaking, that’s nearly 10 TB of live streaming video per day
*In a year’s time, that number will jump to 100,000 hours
*24/7. 24/7. 24/7. You know what we’re about to say: Our live streams start FRIDAY!
Our First 14 are about to become infinitely more familiar with every inch of their new giant playground than we are. But for now, at least, don’t you feel like you practically live here?
Enjoy the silence -- the Utopians arrive so soon. Grab your Passport now so you won’t miss any of the action.
UTOPIA. It’s always on. Jump into the live streams here, or get the app!
